The Black Copper Marans are renowned for their dark Mahogany and Chocolate colored eggs. Not only are they excellent layers, 150-200 eggs per year (about 3 per week for each hen), they are also a great choice for meat. A hen weighs around 7 lbs, give or take a pound, while roosters are about 8-9 pounds.
They are great foragers, and in our experience are a very mellow, and docile breed. They will need extra protection (insulated coop, etc.) for farms in the colder climates, as their combs are susceptible to frostbite.
